Located on the bank of river Yamuna in New Delhi, the Akshardham Temple is not just a religious site but a spiritual, cultural and architectural marvel. Officially known as Swaminarayan Akshardham, it is dedicated to Bhagwan Swaminarayan. It shows the beauty of Hindu traditions and India’s ancient culture. However visiting this temple requires some planning especially around the timings, as the temple follows a structured schedule and has strict entry regulations.

Now, come to the main question, the timing of this. So, as per the information available, the general entry timing of Akshardham complex is 9.30 AM to 6.30 PM but the main temple and other parts follow slightly different timings. 

1. Main Temple Timing;

  • Opening Time: 9.30 AM
  • Closing Time: 6.30 PM

People can visit the temple during this time. The entry gates usually close around 6.30 PM, so it’s better to reach before that.

Note: The main temple remains closed on Monday. So plan your visit accordingly.

2. Exhibition Timing:

In Akshardham, the exhibition is the most educational and immersive part, especially for those who want to learn about Indian traditions and values in an interactive way.

  • Exhibition entry timing: 10.00 AM
  • Closing Time: 5.00 PM

Note that, there are three exhibitions and each one takes 15-20 minutes, though most visitors spend about 1.5 – 2 hours inside this area. You can choose individual exhibition tickets or a combined pass.

The musical fountain and water show called Sahaj Anand is a major highlight of Akshardham. This includes fire, laser,

If you want to visit this temple then reaching Akshardham is very easy, as it is well-connected by Delhi Metro and roads. The closest metro station is Akshardham on the Blue Line. From there, it’s just a short 5 to 10 minutes walk to the temple.

Best Season to Visit Akshardham 

The best time to visit Akshardham is from October to March, when the weather is nice and comfortable. Because Delhi gets very hot in summer (April to June) and outdoor walking can become uncomfortable. Also July to September brings unpredictable rains. So, visit it during the pleasant weather.

Also, during festivals like Diwali, Janmashtami and Kartik Purnima, the temple is decorated with light and feels very peaceful and special. But during festivals it can get quite crowded.

Things You Cannot Carry Inside Akshardham 

Akshardham has very strict security rules. Many items are not allowed inside the temple complex, some of these are:

  • Cameras
  • Bags or purses
  • Food or water bottles
  • Electronic gadgets like USBs, power banks, headphones
  • Cigarettes, lighters, or any tobacco products

You will need to deposit these items in the cloakroom near the entrance, which is completely free and well managed. Only your wallet, cash, and ID card are allowed inside. Photography is not allowed inside the temple, but you can get your photo clicked by official photographers inside the complex.
